because tpu has the characteristics of high strength, wear resistance, good elasticity, and weather resistance, tpu films are widely used in the automotive industry, shoe materials, clothing lamination, ready-to-wear, chemical industry, electronics, medical and other fields. since many countries are paying more and more attention to environmental protection, especially since the european union banned the use of pvc in shoes and other materials, people are trying to find other suitable materials to replace them.
because tpu is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and easy to recycle and decompose, tpu film has become the best substitute for pvc materials on shoe materials, and where pvc can be used, tpu can be used instead.
tpu films are divided into two categories: polyester and polyether. polyester products have better heat resistance and chemical resistance and are widely used to replace pvc products. polyethers have better low temperature resistance, hydrolysis resistance, mildew resistance and antibacterial properties, and are widely used in related products that come into contact with water.
1. wear resistance
when materials are often subjected to mechanical effects such as friction, scraping, and grinding during use, their surfaces will gradually wear away, so the selection of materials with abrasive properties is very important. tpu plastic raw material has excellent wear resistance and is more than five times more wear-resistant than natural rubber. it is one of the preferred materials for wear-resistant products.
2. tensile properties
the tensile strength is as high as 70mpa, and the elongation at break can be as high as 1000%.
3. tear performance
the destruction of elastomers due to the expansion of cracks during application is called tearing. tear strength is the ability of the material to resist tearing. generally speaking, tpu has high tear resistance, and the tear strength is the same as some commonly used the comparison between rubber and plastic is very excellent.
4. inflection performance
many plastic materials are prone to fracture under repeated cyclic stress. tpu products can maintain flexural resistance in different environments and are one of the best choices among polymer materials.
5. hydrolysis resistance
tpu has good water resistance under turbid conditions and will not undergo significant hydrolysis within 1-2 years, especially polyether series. the polyester series will completely decompose if soaked in water at 50°c for half a year, 70°c for 3 weeks, or 100°c for 3 to 4 days. this is one of the reasons why tpu is suitable as an environmentally friendly material for products that require frequent contact with water. it is recommended to use polyether series.
6. high temperature resistance and antioxidant properties
general plastic raw materials are prone to oxidation in environments above 70°c for a long time, but tpu has good oxidation resistance; generally speaking, tpu's temperature resistance can reach 120°c.
the application areas of tpu films generally include the following aspects:
(1) waterproof and breathable tpu film used on textiles
(2) non-yellowing series tpu films used to prevent ultraviolet radiation.
(3) hot melt adhesive film tpu film used for adhesion.
(4) the good printability and easy processability of tpu films used in shoe materials make tpu a special shoe film for sneakers, casual shoes, sandals, etc.
